Amelia Powell is a contemporary, emerging artist based in the unceded territories of the Lekwungen People, that of the Songhees, W̱SÁNEĆ, and Equimalt First Nations (Victoria, BC). Powell holds a BSc in Psychology and Minor in Visual Art from the University of Victoria. Her practice intertwines aspects from both of these fields, and through surreal portraiture and abjection, her acrylic paintings explore distorted, abstracted, human-like forms that push the expectations of familiarity, of the body, and the self.
Powell is one of the founding members of Handout Collective, an artists' collective dedicated to fostering community, building opportunities for other emerging artists, and helping artists be compensated for their work.
